About Barb Manning
I was born in Valdosta, Georgia, a city named for Governor George Troup’s plantation home, Val d’Aosta. Valdosta is a small town full of historic southern charm. The city is the birthplace of Doc Holiday, Demond Wilson (Lamont from Sanford and Son), and Molefi Kete Asante, better known as Arthur Lee Smith Jr. of Temple University, the chair of the first doctorate granting department of African American Studies in the world.
In college, I was one of those students with wide-ranging interests. I studied anthropology, psychology, history, and English. I have an extensive liberal arts education that includes graduate studies in Middle Eastern history.
I have an enduring interest in words and images. As an adolescent, I read Dante’s Inferno and Oscar Wilde’s Picture of Dorian Gray. Later, my taste shifted to science fiction and fantasy. I read every Edgar Rice Burroughs novel available at the local library; other favorites include Judith Tarr’s Gate series, Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series, and the sexy J. D. Robb In Death murder mysteries.
Telling a story, expressing ideas, relating information is what matters to me. Let me put all my passion and energy to work on your next project!
